As we enter into a season of Lent, let’s make sure we’re on the same page: Lent is not about giving up something just because “it’s something to do”. As believers, we choose to give up something that is distracting, or something that is detrimental to our pursuit of Christ. When we give that something up, we replace it with a renewed focus on Christ and what He’s done for us.
With that in mind, we invite everyone to participate in one or more of the following activities throughout this Lenten season. Something to remind us of all that Christ has done for us, collectively, leading up to Easter:
1. Consider joining in a prayer chain with the entire church. You can add your name to a column and select a day to fast and pray for what’s going on around the world. Click here for the link to sign up.
2. Consider praying with us for specific prayer items each week.
March 8 – March 14, 2020:
World: Pray for spiritual renewal in the world, that people will turn their eyes upon the Lord.
Country: Pray for peace and generosity as we uphold our shared values in our diverse country.
Province: Pray for our healthcare professionals as they care for our sick with gentleness and compassion
Church: Pray for our Deacons as they assist and plan for the future of our church.
Personal: Pray for spiritual awareness in our season of Lent. What is God showing us this week?
3. Consider taking a plant home with you and nurturing it for the week. As you do so, spend time in prayer with God. Be intentional with that sacred moment, knowing those before you and after you would have done the same. (Just be sure to bring it back on the following Sunday, in whatever shape it might be in.)
